 Response Planning

- Step 3:  Response -

The goal of response is to minimize the negative impact to the organization while maximizing safety of all involved.  This includes all first responder and outsource vendor personnel safety.

There are some events or situations that need an immediate response:
  • A blown fuse needs to be reset.
  • A light bulb needs to be replaced when it burns out.
  • The toner cartridge in the printer needs to be replaced when it becomes empty.

These types of events have the potential to occur in almost every business.  They do not need extensive plans or training, but do require a timely response to resume normal business operations.

Other types of events are more serious and demand escalated levels of oversight by management.  Any type of fire should require an immediate call to "9-1-1" and notifying the fire department and other emergency first responders.  Organizations in multi-leveled structures need plans and training to ensure all employees are notified and evacuate promptly to a staging area that has been pre-designated.
